01What you will learn

7 capabilities, stated as things you can do

Each one is what you should be able to do at the end, not what the course covers. If an outcome is not testable, it is not an outcome.

  1. Choose between Visualforce rendering, a component-based renderer and an external service.
  2. Build a document template whose layout survives a long name and a 40-line table.
  3. Handle page breaks, repeating headers and totals that must appear on the last page.
  4. Stay inside the view state and heap limits when a document has hundreds of lines.
  5. Store, version and re-issue a generated document without regenerating the bytes.
  6. Attach a document to a record and control who can see it.
  7. Test a generated document by asserting on its content, not by opening it.

02Curriculum

6 modules, 31 lessons

Every lesson shows its length and its type. A SCORM lesson looks like any other lesson, which is the point of ingesting packages rather than linking out to them.

Three approaches, three cost profiles. Most teams pick the external service first and discover they did not need it.

03Before you start

What you need first

Assumed knowledge and setup

  • Course 2.1, and enough Visualforce to read a page. The syntax is covered here.
  • A Developer Edition org with quote or invoice-shaped test data.
  • No design tools required. Layout is done in markup and CSS.
